She just moved to an apartment in Canterbury and has not had time to get her insurance claims, etc., organized. She still has not been able to sell her house in South Bend. She wanted everyone to know that she would be at the reunion next year. To top it all off, a drunk driver hit her car on July 4 th. She was not hurt badly, but he was driving someone else’s truck, and had no insurance.

Bob Blaine: 2 in attendance, and one guest.

Jean reported that everything is pretty much “status quo” for the family. A letter was read from Bob & Ampy since they were both out of town for the reunion.

Letter From Bob & Ampy.

Hello Everyone,

I am so sorry that we could not be at the reunion with all of you today. I am either working at Camp Perry, for the NRA Nationals, or driving home from working our store for the last several days. I had to work at the temporary store that Sinclair International has every year on “dealers row” for the shooters. Ampy is out in Wisconsin visiting with friends that she has not seen for 12 years, while I have been out of town working.

It has been a busy year for the two of us. I have been very busy with my work at Sinclair, as I have been given more responsibilities as the Senior Sales Rep., and the resident Reloading Specialist. I took a fall earlier this year that has had me back on crutches for most of the year. It seems as if the Post Polio Syndrome is doing its best to make life “interesting” for me. But I seem to be holding my own, for the time being. As most of you know, I do tend to get around on the “sticks” pretty well, so it does not slow me down much at all. I do not know if I will get off of the crutches anytime soon, but at least I am getting around, and that is the important matter at hand.

Ampy worked as a caregiver for our maid of honor’s mother-in-law, out in Fresno, CA. While out there, Ampy found out that she liked the warm weather, while I remained in the winter weather working. I think I finally figured out the “REAL” reason why Ron decided to move out to California! Right Ron?! When Ampy was getting ready to come back home, we decided that I would fly out to spend a couple of weeks vacation for my birthday, and to celebrate our 20 th wedding anniversary. When I got out there, I made sure that I contacted Ron & Barb since Visalia is just “down the road” from Fresno. As it worked out, Ampy & I were not able to visit, since Ron was busy with other commitments, and Barb was not feeling well at that time either. After talking with Ron, on the phone, he told us that we should spend some extra time at Yosemite National Park. Ron, you were right!! Only one word can describe Yosemite! MAGNIFICIENT!!! If any of you can get out there to see it, you owe it to yourself to see it! We liked it so much, that we spent an extra day at the park and spent a night at one of the lodges there. What a sight to wake up to in the morning!!!

Some of our friends that live in the LA area said that I could come out and visit anytime since they said all of the rain from out east followed me to CA to help put out all of the terrible fires that they had. You could smell the smoke from the fires as we went over them at 17,000 feet as we were starting to make our let down for the approach for LAX! I could not see the fires, due to the clouds, but you could see the glow of the fires on the clouds. It reminds one how powerful Mother Nature really is, and powerless we can be at times to do much of anything about it.

Ampy visited friends of ours on a trip to Germany, earlier this Spring, and she got to travel to Rome while she was there. She go to see the sights at the Vatican, and Pope John Paul II was able to come out while she was there for the audience he likes to have for the people, when he feels up to it.

Our exchange student, Dani Fernandez, graduated from IUPU with an Associate Degree in Computer Technology. We were very proud of him for him accomplishments since he had no desire to even finish high school when he first came to us in his sophomore year. He has moved back home to Madrid, Spain to help his parents out at the factory they own by putting his new computer skills to work to run the CNC machines that his father just put in. He told us that he has plans to open his own computer supply, and service store, as his future plans for himself, after he works for his parents for a couple of years.

We hope that all of you have been having a great time today, and if I can back in town before any of you leave, I will try my best to make it her yet today to see all of you!

Bob & Ampy

Letter From Lowell & Mae Davis to Ron Davis.

Sorry, but we are unable to make it this year. We have parking at the apartment in Speedway, IN for the race. We do all the races and the Brickyard 400 is the 1 st week in August, so you see people that come every year that would be upset if we are not there. Also, we checked out Parker Cemetery and it all looks nice where your Grandfather & Grandmother are buried. My Dad & Mother are right beside them. The plot is now being cared for by Concordia College workers under some kind of grant. Glad your doing fine after your surgery. I had my left knee replaced on March 1 st., and had the right knee done on Nov. 1 st. You learn to live with it. It’s never the same as before. Tell the crew we wish all good health and best from life.

Lowell

Letter From Wilton & Mildred Raney.

Dear Folks at the Davis Reunion,

Wilton & I were planning to get to Ft. Wayne to attend this reunion, but it became too difficult for us this year for a variety of reasons, including our daughter, Judith & 2 daughters here, with brothers & sisters visiting them all last week at our house. Judy & Doug are in the process of moving from Tok, AK to Maine, where Doug will be in charge of customs at the entry post at Jackman, ME.

But to catch you all up on our family, I’m enclosing our kid’s addresses, and some phone numbers, as well as telling where their kids are. (None are married currently.)

Wilton is now 87 and I am 83. However we are still quite active. But ever since my two knee replacements in July, 1996, I’ve been using two canes to walk places. I may be adding a walker for part time use. Wilt had his knees both done at the same time in 1995, but he’s still walking without support. However, I do not recommend having both knees done at the same time. We love you all and miss seeing you.
