Son of Joseph Davis, moved to Allegany Co., Penn. around 1793, moved to Mason Co., Ky 1807, and in 1828 to Gallatin County, Ky. In 1851 he moved to Fayette County, Illinois to live with family.
According to Samuel D. Davis Rev. War Pension File he was born 1761 in York County, Pa. He served as a substitute for his father, Joseph. He fought with Washington in the battle at Brandywine. He was allowed a pension April 17, 1833 while living in Gallatin County, KY. He married Aug. 14, 1825, his second wife, Nancy Crowder at Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana. He was living in Illinois in 1851 and died in Fayette County, IL Nov. 21, 1853. He came to Illinois to live with his children in 1851 requested a transfer of pension payments to him from KY to IL. In 1855, his widow, Nancy was living in Jefferson County, Indiana, aged 77 years and applied for Bounty Land on Samuel. His pension claim number R. 2750. KY claim #13592.
