Hi, Jim: I am sending two entries from the Davis Directory for
Pennsylvania, a 700-page encyclopedia of diverse entries from many sources,
some reliable, some not so. It was published in 1991 by the Davis Clearing
House after many years of collecting information. The publishers checked as
many entries as they could, but obviously only caught the more obvious
errors. I send these entries with that caveat.

1) Brothers in Chester Co, Pa: (ca 1690) William Davis of Radnor; Thomas
Davis of Tredyffrin; James Davis of Tredyffrin; John Davis and Llewellyn
Davis of Pickering
his children: Elizabeth Davis, elder dau; Isaac Davis; Sarah Davis;
Llewellyn Davis
m. 1. Elizabeth Lewis
m. 2. Magdalene (Davis) Howell

reference: PA. Magazine of History Vol. not noted (early research)

2) Brothers who settled Chester Co., PA, fro Carmorthen, Wales
1. Hugh David ap Ellis b 1665 (b. 1663 per church rec) Cardiganshire, WL
m. Ann ....
d 4 d 12 m 1742 Radnor, Chester Co, PA - 1710 to US
dau: _____ m. David Davis
2. William Davis ba 1666 (Quaker) d. 1734 Chester Co, PA Justice of
Peace
m. 1691 Gwendolyn Phillips [Member of PA Assembly 1712-1714]
3. Thomas Davis ba 1668 settled Tredyffrin [son: Lewellyn Davis]
4. Llewellyn Davis b. 1670 Caermorthen, Wales d 1721 Chester Co.PA
m. 14 Nov 1709 Bridget Jones, Haverford, Chester, Co, PA
wid/m 2. 7 April 1722 James Davis b 1673 bro/Llewellyn
5. Margaret David ba 1672
6. James Davis ap David b 1673 WL d 1743 Chester Co, PA
m. 1. Elizabeth ...1711 came from Wales (son Morris b Wales)
m. 2 7 April 1722 Bridget Jones David, wid of bro: Llewellyn
7. Jane David ba 1675
8. Rowland David ba 1668

references:
Gordon Baker of Maryland (genealogical helper to publisher)
Kate Davis Aucoin of Texas (presumably a descendant)

I found these entries interesting and have printed them as they appeared in
the book. They obviously came from southwest Wales. Other Davises of that
period were from northern Wales and thus another family.

I have contributed some material over the years to the Davis Clearing house. Item: 2 CORRECTION: William Davis married to Gewenllian Philips is the father of William Davis of Radnor, married to Ann Miles. The Elder William Davis died in 1715 at Manor of Mount Joy, Phila Co. He, in fact is a brother to those listed Items>3-8. He also was the first to arrive in Pa. Also William Davis (younger) of Radnor was a JP and member of PA. Assembly 1712-1714. Other than these corrections, the material collaborates all my family resources and two Davis genealogy books written over time. Also the Davis Ancestry included in the genealogy of Rowland Ellis is further collaborated in Family of DAVIES of Gwysaney, whence our Coat of Arms is verified, this information is recorded at Burkes, London as Pedigree CCXIV. Dear Mr. Davis,

We have reviewed books on the history of Washington County, PA for reference to your relatives. We found one article on Mrs. Eliza C. Allen, daughter of Samuel Davis and Mary Teeple. Samuel is listed as the son of Walter Davis. If you would reply with your mailing address, we would send you a copy of this page. It does include the names of each of Samuel’s wives (he was married 3 times) and most of their children, as well as some birth and death dates. The book is from Beers, Commemorative Biographical Record of Washington County, Pennsylvania, p. 677.

We found a few other references which are quite brief. The second book used is Crumine’s History of Washington County, Pennsylvania with Biographical Sketches.
Crumrine p. 954 reference to Samuel Davis married to Mary Vance (his first wife). There is more information about the Vance and Scott families here.
Crumrine p. 454 listing of A. J. Davis as a student of an academy in Monongahela City
Crumrine p. 593 listing of A. J. Davis as a student of D. H. Williams in Monongahela City
Crumrine p. 355 listing of Andrew J. Davis, private mustered out of the army June 2, 1865. 22nd Calvary (185th Regiment) Company A.
Crumrine p. 633 Samuel M. Davis listed as member of Methodist Episcopal Sabbath School, California, PA, formed 1860. In the Beer reference above, Samuel M. was listed as a son of Samuel and Mary Teeple, living in California, PA.
Beers p. 59 mention of Mary Vance married to Samuel Davis in a larger article on the Vance family. According to Beers, p. 677 above, none of Mary’s 4 children survived.

Please send a mailing address if you would like a copy of the above mentioned article, and we will send it out to you.

Kind Regards.
